Class Descriptions

Please note the following:

 

Classes and programs will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. The art classes have limited seating - you must call/talk with Catherine or Priya to reserve a seat.

 

Names will be placed on a waiting list when classes reach capacity.

 

If classes are not enrolled to the minimum level after the second week of class, the class may be cancelled.

 

While all ages are welcome to join classes and activities, minors must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver at all times.

 

If a participant needs assistance with personal care tasks, close monitoring of food intake or requires one-on-one management in order to participate without disrupting the class, he/she must be accompanied by a caregiver. 

All participants must comply with Clallam Mosaic's Code of Conduct in order to continue to participate in programs.​

Spring Term 2019

Art

"Art enables us to find ourselves

Art shatters al boundaries and embraces al abilities. All participants appreciate the joys of creative expression. In addtition, the programs allow participants to build/and or improve: i) fine motor skills, ii) problem solving skills, iii) communication and expression abilities, iv) self-esteem, and, v) motivation to succeed.

 

So come join us, creating with acrylic, watercolor, fabric, oils and other media.

 

 

Art 1   Sequim

Circle of Life

Reviewing and building on previous terms, topics will cover areas such as dating, attraction, feelings, relationship progression and reproductive health. The curriculum is meant to help participants:

• understand how to handle feelings & crushes

• understand how to engage in relationships in safe, healthy ways

• realize the difference between one-sided and reciprocal relationships

• become empowered to establish boundaries

• recognize and accept boundaries of others

• descredit myths about relationships

• become safer in the pursuit of relationships
 

Thanks to support from Clallam County millage funds, this curriculum is FREE to all participants.

 

Port Angeles

Day & Time: Fridays, 1 to 3 pm

Cooking

Join us in the HTLC kitchen to learn basic cooking techniques, participate in food preparation and learn about nutrition. Students will create healthy everyday dishes in a fun, creative atmosphere and they will be able to take recipes with them to duplicate at home.

 

There may be days when the class meets in the Youth Room. On these days curriculum will focus on nutrition. Cooking will not provide lunch so always plan to bring lunch if you are staying for the afternoon class.

Fit & Strong

The benefits of exercise include:
• Improved mood & reduced depression/stress/anxiety
• Increased focus, energy & strength
• Improved relaxation & sleep
• Improved confidence & self
 
With guest instructors, activities will include stretching exercises, cardio workouts, zumba, yoga, self-defense, and walking in the community. Please wear comfortable and loose fitting clothing to give your body plenty of room to stretch and bend.

Day & Time: Mondays, 10 am to 12 noon

Karaoke

Karoake allows aspiring singers to join along and sing with recorded music. Each participant will be able to select his/her own songs and use a microphone to accompany the piece. Lyrics will be available when possible. Those in the audience will be able to dance along to each participant's songs or sit back and enjoy listening.

Day & Time: Wednesdays, 11 am to 12:30 pm

Rec Club 1, 2 & 3

General recreation to provide for the discovery and experience of a variety of activities that promote learning, skill development, creativity, life skills enhancement, and enjoyment. Structured and unstructured activities will provide opportunities for meaningful engagement and community building. Participants can look forward to arts and crafts, birthday bingo, board games, movies and much more.

Theater
 

During the Spring Term, we will start the one year theater production process once again. The program will focus on creation of an exclusive Disney Mash-up. Each participant will help develop his/her own character as well as character context within the over-arching story line. Participants will develop social and theatrical skills as they work together to develop an ensemble production for 2020 performances.

 

Port Angeles

Day & Time: Wednesdays, 9 am to 11 am

World of Technology

These classes enable learners to become more comfortable with technology tools. Participants will become familiar with commonly used tools of today, such as computers, tablets and smart phones. The class will explore device basics, device and internet safety, and the best use of social media.

 

 

 

Port Angeles

Day & Time: Thursdays, 9 to 11 am

Juan de Fuca Festival

May 24, 12:45 to 2:05 pm

Cost: $4

 

On Friday, May 24 Mosaic participants have been invited to attend Juan de Fuca Festival performances at the Port Angeles High School with local school students. The two performaning groups will be: Las Cafeteras, and A Little Bit Off.

Las Cafeteras is a Chicano band from East Los Angeles, California. Their music fuses spoken word and folk music with traditional Son Jaroco, Afro-Mexican music and zapateado dancing.

A Little Bit Off is a theatrical collaboration between two acrobatic clowns.

 

While the performances are free; Mosaic does have paid staff helping to manage the trip so we are charging a minimal fee for attending.

 

Participants should arrange drop off at the Port Angeles High School by 12:30 pm, and pick up at 2:30 pm.

 

Monthly Dances

Come on out and shimmy, sway and delight in the music and company! In addition, there will be a light meal served.

 

Caregivers and family do not pay for entry but are encouraged to make a donation to defray costs of the meal.
