Class Descriptions

Please note the following:

 

Classes and programs will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. The art classes have limited seating - you must call/talk with Catherine or Priya to reserve a seat.

 

Names will be placed on a waiting list when classes reach capacity.

 

If classes are not enrolled to the minimum level after the second week of class, the class may be cancelled.

 

While all ages are welcome to join classes and activities, minors must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver at all times.

 

If a participant needs assistance with personal care tasks, close monitoring of food intake or requires one-on-one management in order to participate without disrupting the class, he/she must be accompanied by a caregiver. 

All participants must comply with Clallam Mosaic's Code of Conduct in order to continue to participate in programs.​

Summer Session 2019

Art and Arts & Crafts

Art shatters all boundaries and embraces all abilities. All participants appreciate the joys of creative expression. In addition, the programs allow participants to build and/or improve: i) fine motor skills, ii) problem solving skills, iii) communication and expression abilities, iv) selfesteem, and, v) motivation to succeed.
So come join us, creating with acrylic, clay, fabric, reclaimed materials and other media.

 

Art    Sequim

Location: Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church

Day & Time: Tuesdays, 10 am to 12 noon

Class Size: 10.  Must call to reserve space.

 

Art & Crafts   Port Angeles

Location: Youth Room, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church

Day & Time: Thursdays, 1 to 3 pm

Class Size: 15.  Must call to reserve space.

Circle of Life

Reviewing and building on previous terms, topics will cover areas such as dating, attraction, feelings, relationship progression and reproductive health. The curriculum is meant to help participants:

• understand how to handle feelings & crushes

• understand how to engage in relationships in safe, healthy ways

• realize the difference between one-sided and reciprocal relationships

• become empowered to establish boundaries

• recognize and accept boundaries of others

• descredit myths about relationships

• become safer in the pursuit of relationships
 

Thanks to support from Clallam County millage funds, this curriculum is FREE to all participants.

 

Port Angeles

Day & Time: Thursdays, 11 am to 12:30 pm

Cooking

Join us in the HTLC kitchen to learn basic cooking techniques, participate in food preparation and learn about nutrition. Students will create healthy everyday dishes in a fun, creative atmosphere and they will be able to take recipes with them to duplicate at home.

 

There may be days when the class meets in the Youth Room. On these days curriculum will focus on nutrition. Cooking will not provide lunch so always plan to bring lunch if you are staying for the afternoon class.

Day & Time: Wednesdays, 12 noon to 2 pm

Fit & Strong

The benefits of exercise include:
• Improved mood & reduced depression/stress/anxiety
• Increased focus, energy & strength
• Improved relaxation & sleep
• Improved confidence & self
 
With guest instructors, activities will include stretching exercises, cardio workouts, zumba, yoga, self-defense, and walking in the community. Please wear comfortable and loose fitting clothing to give your body plenty of room to stretch and bend.

Garden and Rec

During the spring term, the Sequim Rec Club planted zucchini & tomato in the raised beds outside of Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church. During summer term participants in the Garden & Rec class will tend that garden as well as engage in other Rec activities. Even when the focus is not on gardening, class will be outdoors whenever weather permits.

Location: Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church

Day & Time: Tuesdays, 1 to 3 pm

Photography

This class introduces photographic techniques such as exposure, camera controls and composition. Participants will explore creative possibilities and thematic modes of photography with the goal of generating at least one photograph for entry into the Clallam County Fair’s Photo Barn. The class will meet at Holy Trinity during 3 sessions and out in the field during 3 sessions.

Location: Youth Room, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Field Trip (field trip locations will be provided during the first day of class)

Day & Time: Wednesdays, 9 to 11 am

Rec Club

General recreation to provide for the discovery and experience of a variety of activities that promote learning, skill development, creativity, life skills enhancement, and enjoyment. Structured and unstructured activities will provide opportunities for meaningful engagement and community building. Participants can look forward to arts and crafts, birthday bingo, board games, movies and much more.

Location: Fellowship Hall, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church

Day & Time: Mondays, 1 to 3 pm

Sewing

This basic sewing class is designed to get you familiar with working with fabric, working with a pattern, construction skills, finishing techniques, fabric art and quilting. The class will get you familiar with a sewing machine and hand sewing. You do not need to have any past sewing experience to attend. Some manual dexterity will be needed to accomplish projects. The class may work on a group quilt to be sold as an auction item at the Mosaic Masquerade in October.

Theater
 

Building on the theater production we began during the Spring term, the Summer session will continue working on creating an exclusive Disney Mash-up. Each participant will help develop his/her own character as well as character context within the over-arching story line. Participants will develop social and theatrical skills as they work together to develop an ensemble production for 2020 performances.

Location: Youth Room, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church

Day & Time: Thursdays, 9 to 11 am

Type and Read

This class is designed to help participants master basic literacy skills. Depending on level of expertise and ability, participants may work on literacy using technology tools such as iPads or laptop computers. Others will utilize standard non-tech tools for literacy learning. Curriculum will be adapted to fit the level of each learner.

Monthly Dances

Come on out and shimmy, sway and delight in the music and company! In addition, there will be a light meal served.

 

Caregivers and family do not pay for entry but are encouraged to make a donation to defray costs of the meal.
