Class Descriptions

Art Studio

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”
Thomas Merton.

Art opens up a whole new world within ourselves, providing an outlet to communicate in a way that is truly unique, enabling endless paths to success.  Participants will build confidence in their artistic ability while creating masterpieces that are truly amazing. This quarter each art student will have once piece of art featured at the Port Angeles Library from April through July of 2018 in their Art in the Library program. Many types of media and styles of art are explored, such as acrylic and watercolor painting, mosaics, collage, and oil pastels..

Small class sizes are required to enable the best outcomes for each attendee. Participants can sign up for one of the Art Studio classes. Attendance will be closely monitored – missing more than 2 classes may result in removal from class as there are several people on wait lists for available seating.

Participants must be able to hold focus for 10-15 minutes at a time to participate in Art class.

Inclusive Art with April!

We are adding a new art class this term! It will be different from all the rest in that it will be a drop-in style class that is open to any and every one. Participants, family members, staff, board members and friends alike are all invited to participate. Projects will range from single session art projects that can be taken home to collaborative group projects that run the full length of the term.

We ask that anyone planning on attending let us know by 12pm the Thursday before each class. There will be a sign up sheet located on the office door, an email or phone call can also be made to reserve a spot. This will help us to narrow down amount of supplies needed and plan for extra staff if need be.

Literacy

The 2018 Literacy Program will continue and improve upon the 2017 pilot project. The 2018 program will meet with higher frequency (3 days per week) in shorter sessions in order to improve the learning process. While attendees from the pilot class are encouraged to continue in the 2018 program, we wouls also like to encourage a few new participants to join the program. However, prior to enrollment, new attendees must contact Katelynne to set up a time for pre-screening. All participants will sign a year-long commitment contract that will require supporting caregivers to also sign a commitment to providing assistance with homework. Beta Nu's Community Education Grant supports part of the cost of running the literacy program so that only a minimal program fee will be charged to participants.
